Spark Root
Crafted so that we may evolve together
The Situation

Spark Root had built a successful development and construction business in Austin and Asheville on their own terms — developing their own projects, working with people they trusted, never compromising on culture. It worked because they controlled every variable. Now they wanted to grow by taking on outside projects for the first time, which meant doing something they'd never had to do before: introducing themselves to strangers. The challenge wasn't just communicating what they build. It was communicating who they are — a team with a genuinely unusual ethos in an industry not known for them. They will only work with partners who are a real cultural fit, and they'd rather walk away from a deal than force one. That's a brand problem as much as a business one: how do you build a public presence that attracts exactly the right people and makes it easy for everyone else to self-select out?

The Finding

Through leadership interviews, a full-team workshop, and a competitive analysis, the positioning came into focus: in a field full of developers who lead with scale, speed, and portfolio size, Spark Root's differentiation is relational. Their work is good because their partnerships are good, and they're not willing to separate the two. That's not a soft claim — it's a genuine competitive strategy, and it needed to be stated plainly and confidently rather than buried in polished real estate language.

The Work

A refreshed brand identity gave Spark Root a visual presence as distinctive as their personality — honest, warm, and confident without being flashy. New messaging articulated their values and culture with the same directness they bring to every conversation. A new website functioned less as a marketing machine and more as a considered introduction: here's what we build, here's how we work, here's who we are — and here's how you'll know if we're right for each other. Sales materials gave them something to put in front of the right people when the moment called for it.

What they said

Hillary's skill in turning our scattered thoughts into clear, actionable insights was remarkable. She has an extraordinary ability to draw out ideas and shape them into precisely what we need to communicate, all packaged beautifully. Our new positioning set us apart in the market brilliantly.

The Shift

Spark Root entered new partnerships and diversified their project portfolio — with partners who found them, understood them, and chose them for the right reasons. The brand gave them a way to show up authentically in rooms they'd never been in before, without having to explain themselves from scratch every time.
